KOHALA COAST, HI (October 25, 2017) –Mauna Kea Resort will launch its first Legacy Dinner Series on Saturday, November 25, 2017 at Mauna Kea Beach Hotel’s North Pointe Lawn. Proceeds from this and future events held as part of the new series will help fund a culinary or hospitality scholarship to be administered by the University of Hawaii Foundation.

“We want to help create a pipeline of talent here in Hawaii that wants to work in our industry,” explained Mauna Kea Beach Hotel assistant food and beverage director Raymond Kanehailua, Jr., who hatched the idea. “Our new Mauna Kea Resort scholarship may open the door for students who otherwise would not be able to afford college tuition.”

The inaugural Mauna Kea Resort Legacy Dinner Series event in November includes a reception and three-course dinner highlighting island farms and ranchers. On the menu are greens from Kekela Farms, Kulana beef, and Kahaluu Estate Chocolate. Each course will be skillfully prepared by Mauna Kea Resort chefs and paired with Preston Parker or Niner Wine Estates wines. Cost, inclusive of tax and gratuity, is $88 per person. The reception begins at 5:30pm and dinner follows immediately.

Other Legacy Dinner Series may involve island micro-brews or house-made brews and will always focus on a menu that is locally sourced. The second Legacy Dinner Series is scheduled for March 31, 2018. It and subsequent dinners will all help fund the Mauna Kea Resort culinary/ hospitality scholarship.
